Mikko switched from working as a product development chef to construction work within Servica

What is your job title and what are your responsibilities?

I work as one of four construction engineering supervisors in the city of Kuopio. Most of my working time is spent in the office, as well as managing work and allocating employees to work sites. In addition, the work includes checking invoices, invoicing, planning shifts, receiving new projects, site visits and weekly inspections.

How long have you been working at Servica and what has your career been like?

I started at Servica as a product development chef at Kuopio Town Hall in 2018 August. I liked working as a product development chef, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, I moved to the construction side. On the construction side, I have done almost all types of work. I worked as an installer for about a year, then I became a service manager and then a supervisor.

What did you study?

I have a degree in catering, a degree in restaurant management and a degree in landscaping. In addition, I obtained a vocational degree in first-level management this autumn.

How did you come to work for Servica?

Having worked for more than five years with my previous employer, I wanted variety and new challenges, so I applied for a vacant position as a product development chef. I wasn’t selected for the position at first, but I was contacted again a month later and got the job.

What’s the best thing about your job and Servica?

The diversity and challenge of workdays mean no two days are the same, so the work remains interesting.

What would you like to say to someone who is considering Servica as an employer?

It’s definitely worth applying for a job at Servica. Servica has more than 1,800 employees and all are professionals. You always get help and support, and you don’t have to worry about knowing something or not getting advice. People are friendly and approachable. For example, when my son was doing a “day at work” here, the CEO came to talk to him after noticing him in the office. All in all, it’s been great to work here. Servica is a big company, so there is also the opportunity to change roles when needed, as I did.
