Pirjo appreciates the variety of facilities to be cleaned

What is your job title and what are your responsibilities?

I work as a rotating facility cleaner in Varkaus. The tasks include cleaning in at least three different locations every day. Our area includes the Varkaus gymnasium, ice rink, afternoon activities facilities, residential home, day care centre, youth facilities and the city depot. As you can see, the locations are very different.

The locations for each day are planned in the work schedule. If someone is absent, we agree on how to organise the cleaning. We currently have three permanent facility cleaners, and one summer employee is also working and learning the job.

The work takes place from Monday to Sunday and from August to the end of April. There is no weekend work during the summer. The work is very mornings-oriented, and we only work the morning shift.

What has your career been like and what have you studied?

I worked in the retail industry for about 15 years before I started cleaning. I first started cleaning work in my previous job as a summer employee, where I later worked as a cleaning manager for 8 years. I joined Servica in May 2023.

How did you come to work for Servica?

My colleague who is in the same team as me worked with me in the previous company. They switched to Servica and encouraged me to come here too. I first spent the summer at a nursing home in Leppävirta, and in August I moved on to these tasks.

What surprised you in your current role?

I was surprised that the work isn’t very hard and that the days aren’t all about running from one place to another, even though we have a lot of sites to clean. Of course, we have to work long hours on our feet, but the work is not physically demanding.

What do you like best about your job?

My colleagues, managers and the diversity of work. I like the fact that the cleaning sites vary a lot.

What would you like to say to a person who is considering the role of a rotating facility cleaner?

I strongly recommend applying if you like the fact that the working location is not the same all the time. The work is very varied and diverse. Every location is completely different.
